The deadbolt locks and unlocks from the outside with a key and from the inside with a thumbturn while the latch is operated by the thumb piece outside and the knob or lever inside. "I had ordered another mortise lock from Handlesets, only to find that it wasn't the proper one (the measurements for these is crutial). I then got on the manufacture's website to get the exact dimentions, and contacted Handlesets, where they assisted me it returning the first mortise lock, and ordering the exact one that I needed. It arrived promptly, and upon installation it was an exact fit. I can't say enough about the courteous service I recieved and I would recommend them highly."
