The deadbolt locks and unlocks with a key from the outside and a thumbturn on the inside while the latch is operated by the thumb piece outside and lever or knob inside. "I had purchased three sets of door handles for my front door and none have given me the sense of security and the ease of operation and the style of this unit. It is heavy, solid and much more expensive looking than other handlesets I have seen. (and I have looked at a lot.) EMtek is a quality product. I also must compliment the customer service I received, which is why I ultimately purchased at this web site. They answered all my questions and when they could not they referred me to Emtek who were very helpful. Other websites, not so helpful. I highly recommend this handlset."
