"The lock does not work consistently and I would not recommend it. It was easy to install and set up but it now only reads our fingerprints about half the time. Cold (above freezing) weather makes the unit even less likely to read a fingerprint so we use the key."

"Works great!
The descriptions is exactly what the product does. The price is a little high but the quality of this electronic lock is excellent. The finger scanner is so accurate by default you must swipe at the exact same speed as the first time your print was entered into its memory.
After reading a few reviews online after my purchase I took their advise and turned down the sensitivity of the print scanner to medium and the positive reads of my swipes raised 50%.
It even displays the scanned print every time you swipe!
Why only 4 Stars?
Even thought this is part of the SmartScan Series the lock cylinder is not a SmartKey cylinder as you can see in the picture. This means that you will have to purchase a second cylinder in order to use the SmartKey Re-Key system."

"Pros. I ordered two of these guys and i can't tell you how happy i am. I was a little worried if it was going to work correctly. It takes a bit to get used to but once you get it it works great. Very satified with my order. I received my order very fast and everything went smoothly.
Cons. The only feature i would like to have is the ability to self lock after a certain amount of time. Say 10 minutes."

"I love not having to fish for my keys when I'm carrying stuff in the front door. Not having to worry about who else might have a key is another plus.
This is the least expensive fingerprint lock i've seen, and since it's by Quickset, I was pretty sure the company would still be around in case of trouble. It's dependent on the user being able to repeat the finger scanning position reasonably well. Scanning speed is more forgiving.
Directions make it clear how to do this, but it also takes a bit of a knack for the users to get recognized every time. Using the thumb as a brace as described in the instructions improves first-scan results.
Since I'm the main user I recorded the same finger several times with slightly different finger positions. There's lots of memory available for many users (and fingers!)
It's a breeze to install and program. The flat cable to the scanner is slightly vulnerable during installation, but with a little care proved to be no problem.
I was initially disappointed that the "inside" chassis cover was metallized plastic rather than metal, but it looks great and gets very little wear.
All this plus Quikset's new "Bump Proof" key feature makes this an easy choice for anyone looking for a biometric lock."

"I purchased this lock for my son and installed same. The lock does not read prints on the first try. Must try it 5 to 10 time be fore it will work if it works at all. My son can not get it to work and he is the Admin. Is there any way to go back to a new starting position??"

"Outstanding!!! It was everything advertised. I looked everywhere ( Home Depot, Lowes, etc..). All said that the lock would not be available until 1st part of 08. This is beyond easy to install, in fact the entire installation including progamming the deadbolt took less than hour. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has children or an aging mother-in-law like myself, (she has already lost 3 sets of keys to the house). The HandleSets folks had the lock at my door in a few days...great e-tailer to deal with...."

My scanner doesn't read my fingerprint. What do you recommend?
A. Try using a soft-solvent cleaner (like Windex) to clean the scanner lenses of any dirt, oils, etc. If that doesn't work, you could have a malfunctioning unit, in which case Kwikset can help troubleshoot your lock.

Is is possible to have this always locked from the outside by default?
A. There is no setting to have it always locked from the exterior. You must scan or use your key.
